As a former student, I feel proud that the University of York has trailblazed this initiative. Education without financial and emotional safety forces students to make difficult choices, curtailing their potential. I wish York every success.

I am ashamed of the callous lack of welcome the UK offers to overseas visitors, and think that encouraging overseas students to learn here and have positive memories of their time here is profoundly worthwhile. Well done York University!

I loved my time at York and I made some really good friends. It's hard enough losing a parent at any age, but at University that must be awful. Then having to borrow money to go to your own mother's funeral, well done York on setting up a fund.
